Newcastle United FC 2012

The Magpies opened St James’s Park to our students from Newcastle and Gateshead, culminating in them shooting pitch-side at The Premier League encounter between Newcastle United and Liverpool.

The trainees were mentored by Thapelo Motsumi, one of our original Soweto learners. This started our “train to train” programme whereby former trainees are trained to progress to training their contemporaries on each future project. Thapelo was guest of honour for the match and had one of his photographs displayed 30 metres wide on the centre circle! In return, Thapelo presented NUFC with a 2m x 2m print of one of his photographs from the 2010 World Cup, which hangs in The Leazes End of the stadium to this day. Exhibitions were held both in the stadium and The Sage in Gateshead.
